How To Avoid / Overcome Sins / Temptations With Bible Verses

We all Agree that Human beings are naturally inclined towards sin. Everyone feels the urge to sin at some point because sinning gives us tangible yet fleeting benefits at the cost of moral and spiritual ones.

It is well known that Temptation is the urge to sin. We're judged by the degree to which we thwart our temptations. Because of humanity's sinful nature, everyone, at some point, fails to resist their temptations. Luckily, we're never alone in our quest to thwart our temptations. In the words of the Bible: "No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man." (1 Corinthians 10:13.

Today we share with you some most important ways which can be used by Human Beings to Avoid sins and temptations:

1. Identify your temptations and the personal flaws that create them.
Everyone has their own temptations. Though Jesus never sinned, even he was tempted to. (Hebrews 4:15) Spend a few moments self-reflecting to identify your personal temptations. Then, pin down the personality traits that lead you to temptations. No two people are exactly alike. Your temptations might resemble those of your friends, family, or other associates, but there's also a chance that they're unique to you.

2. Focus on God’s Word
The Psalmist wrote that he hid God’s “Word in my heart, that I might not sin” (Psalm 119:11). Reading, memorizing, and meditating on God’s Word will help you keep your mind and heart focused on Him, rather than on earthly temptations.

3. Do not love the things that belong to this world.
What we serve shows what we love. That’s why Jesus said believers cannot love both God and money (Matthew 6:24, Luke 16:13). John takes this one step further in 1 John 2:15, writing, “Do not love the world or anything in the world.” Avoiding sin means being careful not to direct our love and devotion to anything other than Jesus.

4 Keep Your Mind Clean
Psalm 101:3 “I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.”

Job 31:1 “I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?”

As the verse in 2 Corinthians reminds us, the battle for your mind is an active one. It is not something that you can passively win. You must work to keep your mind pure. The psalmist says that he would set no wicked thing before his eyes. Job covenanted with himself to keep his eyes pure because he knew that men are attracted by what they see. These two verses say that if we can keep our eyes from seeing things that are wicked then the likelihood of keeping a pure mind is greater.

5. Set reasonable goals for fighting temptation.
Your aim when fighting temptation should take into account the fact that, as a human being, you're incapable of perfection. Don't set an un-achievable goal like "I will never sin again." If you do, you're setting yourself up for disappointment. Realize that you will inevitably sin again (and again and again). Set a realistic goal that takes this into account.

For instance, if you've been neglecting your child's vocal recitals in favor of nights spent at home watching TV, you might set a goal of never missing another vocal recital (except for emergencies) and of reducing your time spent watching TV every week by four hours. This goal is well within your grasp.

6. Stay Far from Sin
Try to avoid situations and places where you may be tempted to sin. If you have a drinking problem, don’t go to bars. If you tend to look lustfully at women, don’t go to the beach. The brother of Jesus encouraged Believers to “resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). Remember, God can guide you away from temptation: “When you are tempted, God will show you a way out” (I Corinthians 10:13).
